3 cups of coffee reduce Alzheimer disease
Drinking three to five cups of coffee could reduce the risk of developing Alzheimer disease by up to 20 percent scientists claim. The study released by the institute for scientific information on coffee in UK Noted that Mediterranean diet consisting of fish, fresh fruit, vegetables, olive oil and red wine has already been associated with a reduced risk for development of Alzheimer disease .The research suggests that compound containing polyphenol and caffeine can be responsible for the protective effect and these compound are also found in high quantities in coffee according to study. The majority of human epidemiological studies suggest that regular consumption over a life time is associated with reduced risk of developing Alzheimer’s disease, with an optimum protective occurring with four to five cups of coffee, “said Dr Arfan Ikram neuroepidemology Erasmus Medical centre Rotterdam.The study reveals that moderate coffee consumption was associated with a lower risk of developing dementia over a four year test period up to 20 percent. However effect diminished over longer follow up period. The researchers found caffeine helped prevent the formation of amyloid plaques and neurofibrulary tangles in the brain -two hallmarks of Alzheimer disease. Both caffeine and polyphenols reduced the inflammation and decreased the deterioration of brain cells-especially in hippocampus and cortex area of brain involved in memory researchers found.
